IDHSV successful installation in Snorre P-38
20th of August 2009
The worn down nipple seal area in the Down Hole Safety Valve (DHSV) did not allow for conventional replacement of an insert Tubing Retrievable Surface Controlled Subsurface Safety Valve (TRSCSSV).

Numerous wireline and coiled tubing runs performed in the oil producing well, Snorre P-38, caused damage in the nipple seal area of the DHSV. This fault made the implementation of other known cost-effective solutions to be unsuccessful.

The Insert DHSV Carrier (IDHSV) previously tested at BTU facilities (ISO14310/V1), along with a 5½” insert safety valve, was successfully installed and tested to full operating pressure in the P-38 well, using the existing safety valve profile to appropriately set the insert safety valve and straddling the existing hydraulic mechanism.

This successful project, which avoided a costly and lengthy workover, displays an excellent solution for wells  that present corrosion or mechanical wear in their existing DHSV systems.
